On Thursday 26 July, the redeveloped Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre in Kadina was officially opened by The Honourable Michael McCormack, Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

It was a grand occasion organised by the Copper Coast Council and the celebrations also continued on Sunday at the community open day. The upgraded facility built by Unique Urban Built and designed by Grieve Gillett Andersen, was hailed as a benchmark for country area sports facilities.

Mr McCormack said the upgraded centre will now cater to the increasing local demand for modern sport and leisure facilities designed to host local, district, regional and state competitions.

“The new $10.4 million centre includes the construction and fit-out of a new indoor stadium, including an indoor basketball court, an upgraded gymnasium and squash courts as well as a conference room, a children's nursery, kiosk, consulting rooms, upgraded reception and fitness areas and the resurfacing and paving of the carpark,” Mr McCormack said.

Copper Coast Mayor Paul Thomas said the new leisure centre has excited our local community and provides sporting facilities for the region.

“Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre is an icon the whole community can now be doubly proud of. The community will cherish this facility for its contribution to our way of life and our physical and mental wellbeing,” Mayor Thomas said.

We thank the Copper Coast Council and Unique Urban Built for the opportunity to be involved in such an important project for the region.
