Crayon House is restrained, simple and yet a beautiful example of a house that has everything it needs without being excessive. Deemed an exemplar of sustainability in the suburbs, the colourful and playful project was awarded

The John S Chappel Award for Residential Architecture (New Houses) and an Award for Sustainable Architecture.

2017 AIA (SA) Residential Jury Citation
As one approaches, this house a simple and well-proportioned timber façade welcomes you, and what strikes you after seeing photos is how well the house is nestled into the street and what a wonderful contribution to the street the architecture offers.


With no front fence, a thoughtful yet simple landscape entices you to the front door via a ramping timber walkway past a variety of expertly considered materials and textures. READ FULL CITATION

Light-hearted, fun, playful – the Crayon House isn’t burdened by environmental responsibility.  Sustainable features were considered not just for practicality, but also for comfort and enjoyment.  These features are seamlessly integrated within a strong, refined, and carefully detailed form. The Crayon House has both - practicality and plenty of personality.
