NAWIC AWARDS CELEBRATES WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION

Grieve Gillett Andersen was proud to be nominated for the 2019 Crystal Vision Award at the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) SA Awards for Excellence announced in October.

This award celebrates the achievement of individuals, businesses or organisations that actively promote and encourage participation and career progression of women in the construction or related industries.

As a medium size South Australian architectural practice, we are proud to employ 33 professional staff, of which 50% are female. In addition, at senior leadership level 1 of the 2 Directors and both Associate Directors are female, which is well above the national average for architecture practices in Australia.

Beyond the stats, our nomination was chance to acknowledge Principal Directors Dimitty Andersen, Paul Gillett and Steve Grieve, who have each worked consistently to support and mentor their staff through the continuing developmental stages of their careers.

Whether it be employment or project related, the practice has consciously and consistently engaged the ‘best person for the task’, which has resulted in a consistent gender balance across the team for over 35 years.

At Grieve Gillett Andersen, we encourage our staff to strive to achieve their potential and grow their careers, and are supported by initiatives such as equity of pay, flexible working hours, extended carers leave and support to staff with young families transitioning back to work. We continue to provide equal opportunities for our people to develop their project experience and leadership skills, regardless of gender, and encourage their involvement in teaching, advocacy and board positions across the architecture and construction industry in South Australia.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of this highly respected awards program and are inspired by the success and achievements of other organisations and individuals who are driving positive change for women and gender diversity across the sector.

We wish to thank NAWIC SA and extend our congratulations to Enerven on being awarded the 2019 Crystal Vision Award and to each of the individual award winners Luise Panuccio (Aurecon), Rosalia Faraonio (Lendlease), Jaana Bithell (Studio Nine Architects) and Alison Bussey (Enerven) on their achievements.
