SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

Grieve Gillett Architects has a well-balanced, practical approach to sustainable architecture. We combine best-practice sustainability methods, an understanding of user needs and an appreciation of context and local environment.

We incorporate sustainable design principles as an integral part of all our projects, from new buildings to fitouts, and adaptive reuse of existing buildings. Our approach to sustainable design takes into consideration, the following for each project:

  • Passive design

  • Design of optimal active building services systems

  • Water management and reuse

  • Alternative energy sources

  • Material selection to produce robust low maintenance buildings

  • Detailing to minimise construction waste

  • Occupant comfort and wellbeing

  • Analysis of initial cost in relation to budget

  • Life cycle cost analysis.

We believe it is important to communicate these considerations during the design phase to enable our clients to participate in informed and collaborative decision-making.  This is further supported by induction procedures, which foster end user engagement and understanding, and assists in achieving optimal environmental performance once the project is completed.

We recognise that design and construction activities have a significant impact upon the environment. At Grieve Gillett Architects, we actively engage to minimise the effect wherever possible.
